2015 Encourage Shield underway

The 2015 Encourage Shield commenced on Monday 21 September with Everglades up against a strong Shelly Beach side.

This event is aimed at younger, less experienced golfers and gives them a taste of inter club match play and preparation for Pennants, Inter District competition etc.

The following unsolicited email was received after play on Monday:

Hi All,

I have been playing golf for 60 years. In that time I have had the pleasure to encourage & manage junior golf at all levels.
I would like to tell you about an incident that occurred yesterday when I was manager of the Shelly Beach team at the Encourage Shield match between Shelly Beach V Everglades. The players from each team were encouraging their opposition. For instance an amazing sight was when one young player chipped onto the green & his opponent was wishing it to go in the hole. When it did go in he was cheering for the other player.
If we saw more of this attitude maybe other young golfers would be keen to play our great game.

Their Clubs should be commended for teaching them good sportsmanship.

Regards

Hughie Winsor

Obviously the match was played in great spirit and is testament to what golf instills in these youngsters at an early age. CCDGA looks forward to monitoring the progress of these youngsters over the coming years.
