2015 Regional Championships

The 2015 Regional Championship encompassing the CCDGA, Hunter River DGA, Lower North Coast DGA and Newcastle DGA was played over the weekend of 15 & 16 August at Hawks Nest Golf Club.

Titles up for grabs were the Regional Champion, Junior (under 18) Regional Champion, Senior (over 50) Regional Champion, daily prizes in both scratch and net events, the Jim Baker Shield for of 21 players from each DGA and the Sandy Cameron Shield for teams of 4 players from individual clubs.

Day 1 saw Dylan Perry (HRDGA) playing off his plus 5 handicap and Greg McMillan (NDGA) off plus 3 shoot fine rounds of 70, 2 under par, to lead the field over night and set up a great day of golf on Sunday. Best rounds by CCDGA players on Saturday were a 1 over 73 by Justin Avendano, and 3 over 75 by both Greg Watton and Ryan Edwards.

Overnight rain cleared before the field took to the course on Sunday with expectations of a titanic struggle between Dylan and Greg and in the end Greg proved too consistent shooting a par round to edge Dylan by 2 shots and claim the title. The best performers for CCDGA on Sunday were Stuart McDonald, Darcy Boyd and Greg Watton and as a result they all claimed a prize, Stuart for the second 18 hole scratch, Darcy as runner up in the Junior Regional Championship and Greg as the Senior Regional Champion. The NSW Country Championship is to be played at Wollongong Golf Club over the weekend of 5 & 6 December and the CCDGA team for that event, based on performances at The Regionals is Justin Avendano, Darcy Boyd, Greg Watton, Stuart McDonald, Shane Quick and Kieren Jones. Reserves in order are David Morgan, James Swanson, Kenton Boyd and Reece Oliver.
