CCDGA Pennant Finals

The first of the 2017 finals was played at Everglades on Saturday under clear skies and in bright sunshine.

Coast stars of the future from Shelly Beach and Toukley took to the course for a match befitting a final and in the end Shelly Beach prevailed 4.5 matches to 1.5. These scores do not reflect how close the tussle was and a decision was not finalised until the 19th hole when James Linnet from Shelly Beach canned a knee knocker for the win.

The final was played in great spirit and the kids, their respective Clubs and indeed the Coast can all be proud of them. Golf's future on the Coast is assured with youngsters such as these coming through the ranks.

Sunday, unfortunately, was not as kind for the "A", "B" and "C" finals played at Morisset and Shelly Beach. Overnight rain meant that the courses were somewhat damp and throughout the day, particularly at Shelly Beach, the wind played havoc with some shots.

The "A" grade final featured a rematch from the previous year with Shelly Beach again facing Toukley.  Played in great spirit the matches were close but in the end Toukley proved too strong for Shelly Beach and took the Pennant 4.5 matches to 2.5.

"B" & "C" grades, playing at Shelly Beach, struggled somewhat in the conditions and the contests almost became survival of the fittest. Wyong proved too strong for Toukley taking the Pennant 2 matches to 1.

The "C grade event stands at 1 match each and unfortunately, due to lack of daylight, play in the final "C" grade match was suspended after 20 holes. Players in this match will return to Shelly Beach on Saturday 8 April to conclude the final.

Congratulations to all of the winners and to all of the players for playing for your Club and making the series a success.
