Father & Son force majeur in 2014 CCDGA Foursomes Championship

Played at Kooindah Waters Golf Club, Sunday 4 May 2014, the Toukley father and son team of Kenton and Darcy Boyd took 2 extra holes to secure a win over reigning champions, Craig Wickham and Ethan Forsyth of Wyong.

Both pairs returned scores of 76 on a golf course lengthened by recent rains but still in great shape and with greens running at around 10 on the stimp meter. Without exception the competitors spoke in glowing terms of the course and, in particular, the greens.

Locals Jamie Nicholl and Daniel Mills used their handicap allowance of 3.5 to the full extent in returning a nett 75.5 to claim the nett prize from Lee Papps and Paul Botting from Everglades, handicap 3, who returned a nett 76.

District officials were disappointed that 7 pairs chose not to compete and did not inform the Association accordingly. The field had been closed and there were 5 pairs on a waiting list for any vacancies that might have occurred but unfortunately these places could not be filled as the Association had not been informed of the withdrawals. Added to this the officials on the day were forced to wait for 3 cards which were eventually "written off" as "no card returned".

Golf is a game of discipline and etiquette and withdrawal from an event for whatever reason should always be conveyed to the organisers to allow substitutes or other changes to be made. Players should also return their cards no matter how bad the score or how great the disappointment as the committee person on duty should not be made to search high and low for cards.
