CCDGA 2018 Pennant ceases with close matches

The weekend of 10 / 11 March saw the end of the 2018 season and close matches across the board made for interesting watching.

On Saturday 10 March the Juniors played their last match of the season with Toukley holding a slender lead and needing to win to grab the title.

Wyong, in hot pursuit of the strong Toukley line up, needed a win and to hope Toukley lost thereby forcing a playoff. Wyong played strongly against Shelly Beach taking the contest 5 matches to 1 and threw down the gauntlet to the Toukley side.

Toukley, up against the composite side with players from Morisset, Gosford and Wyong, struggled a little but in the end ran out winners 3.5 matches to 2.5 and claimed the Pennant.

Congratulations to Toukley for another successful year and to all of the kids who played this year and who will obviously be the Senior players of the future.

Sunday 11 March heralded in the Senior finals with Wyong up against Everglades in both the A & B competition and Mangrove Mt taking on Toukley in the C grade final.

All of the contests were close but in the end Wyong proved too strong for Everglades taking the Pennant 4 matches to 3.

Everglades turned the tide in the B grade defeating last years winners, Wyong, by 2 matches to 1 whilst Toukley picked up the C Pennant in another close contest with Mangrove Mt 2 matches to 1.

Congratulations to the winning players and clubs.

Computation of scores in the Sterland Shield continue but early indications are that Wyong will in all probability be the Champion Club this year.
